Meet the Doctors
Here at Sherwood South Animal Hospital we have an amazing staff of talented and skilled doctors with special interests and expertise in many different aspects of veterinary medicine. Our family oriented staff is committed to providing state of the art veterinary care while maintaining an atmosphere of respect, support, and animal well-being!
Alfred G. Stevens, D.V.M.
Dr. Alfred G. Stevens was born and raised in Winnfield, LA, a rural town in North
Louisiana. Having grown up on a cattle farm, his desire to become a veterinarian
began at a very young age. Dr. Stevens attended Louisiana State University as an
undergraduate with an emphasis on Veterinary Medicine. He was accepted into the
newly formed Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine as the third
official class and graduated in 1979. After Dr. Stevens second year of veterinary
school he married Susan Granzin, the daughter of Dr. O.C. “Bob” Granzin. Upon graduation
Dr. Stevens joined Dr. Granzin at Sherwood South Animal Hospital. Dr. Stevens has
served the veterinary community in many ways over the years. He was President of
the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, President of the LSU Veterinary Alumni
Association, and the President of the Baton Rouge Area Veterinary Medical Association.
He has also had the privilege of receiving the Louisiana Veterinarian of the Year
award. In his spare time Dr. Stevens serves as an adjunct instructor of veterinary
dentistry at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. He is also the Veterinary dentist
for the zoo animals at the famous Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. He is a member of
the AVMA, LVMA, BRAVMA, and the American Veterinary Dental Society. Dr. Stevens
has several special interests which include veterinary dentistry, endoscopy, ultrasound,
and orthopedic surgery. He enjoys teaching Sunday School and as a Christian puts
God at the forefront of his life. He resides with his wife, Susan, and their pets
Colt and Hannah (boxers), Libby (small white dog), Mr Deville and Willis (cats).
On Sept 12, 2007, Dr Stevens welcomed his first grandchild, Carter Anthony Stevens,
son of Chad and Jodie Stevens. His daughter Carla was married to Adam Thompson on
July 26, 2008.
Lacie B. Lee, D.V.M.
Dr. Lacie B. Lee was born and raised in Lafayette, LA. She has always had a special
love for animals and realized at a young age she would pursue a career in Veterinary
Medicine. Dr. Lacie attended Louisiana State University as an undergraduate majoring
in Veterinary Science. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in many
campus organizations, and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was
accepted to the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998
and graduated in 2002. She married her husband, Dr. Stephen Lee, Jr., during her
third year of Veterinary School. Dr. Lacie is a member of the AVMA, GVMA, LVMA,
BRAVMA, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Her special interests
include all aspects of Feline Medicine and she really enjoys working with local
animal rescue organizations. She is a member of the Veterinary Honor Society, Phi
Zeta, and graduated with several honors from Veterinary School. Dr. Lacie enjoys
reading, antique shopping, and spending quality time with her family and pets. She
resides with her husband, Dr. Stephen Lee and their 2 children Ashlyn Ray Lee and
Jax Michael Lee. Their four-legged children include the poodles Jackson and Cowboy,
and cats Millie, Jazz, Oliver Moppett, and their host of outside feral cats.
Stephen M. Lee, Jr., D.V.M.
Dr. Stephen M. Lee, Jr. was born and raised in Minden, LA., a small town in North
Louisiana. Growing up on a ranch, surrounded by animals, he always had a special
interest in veterinary medicine. Dr. Lee attended Louisiana State University as
an undergraduate receiving a degree in Dairy Science. While at LSU he was a member
of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was accepted into the Louisiana State University
School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and graduated in 2002. He married his wife,
Dr. Lacie Lee, during his third year of veterinary school. Dr. Lee is a member of
the AVMA, GVMA, LVMA, BRAVMA, American Veterinary Dental Society, and is a member
of the Veterinary Honor Society, Phi Zeta. Dr. Lee has a special interest in small
animal medicine, soft tissue/orthopedic surgery, and dentistry. Following practice
in Atlanta Georgia he and his wife, Dr. Lacie Lee, returned to their home state
to practice with Dr. Alfred Stevens at Sherwood South Animal Hospital. Outside of
veterinary medicine Dr. Lee enjoys golfing, taking care of his lawn, and attending
LSU sporting events. He also resides with his wife, Dr. Lacie Lee, their 2 children
Ashlynn and Jax, and pets Jackson, Cowboy, Millie, Jazz, and Oliver Moppett.
Nicole B. West, DVM
Dr. Nicole B. West was born and raised in Ruston, Louisiana a small town in north
Louisiana. She is a graduate of Cedar Creek High School’s class of 1996 and attended
Louisiana Tech University on an athletic scholarship. Nicole was a member of the
Lady Techsters women’s basketball team from 1996-1998 and played in the 1998 NCAA
Final Four National Championship. She also participated in many campus organizations,
and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She received her B.S. in animal science
from Louisiana Tech in May 2000. Nicole was accepted into the Louisiana State University
School of Veterinary Medicine as a member of the class of 2003. During veterinary
school, she was a chairperson for the veterinary school’s open house, a student
class representative, a member of Phi Zeta veterinary honor society, and many other
organizations.
After graduation, Dr. West began practicing small animal medicine as an associate at Magazine Street Animal Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. She also worked as a relief veterinarian for the doctors at Sherwood South Animal Hospital. In June 2004, she began another position as an associate at Prairieville Animal Hospital in Prairieville, Louisiana. Dr. West was married in June 2004 and resides in Baton Rouge with her husband, Brian West, and their spoiled pets Mocha (lab), Josie (Golden Retriever), and Slick (Pug). Outside of the workplace, Dr. Nicole enjoys competitive tennis, pilates, softball, golf, and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Nicole A. LaNasa was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of New Orleans in 1998. That same year she was accepted into Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She was active with many of the schools committees and activities, including heading and planning the Great Rover Road Run in her second year. In May 2002, she received her DVM. After graduating, Dr. LaNasa moved to Round Rock, Texas where she worked as an associate at Animal Care Clinic for the next year and a half. She married her husband, Keith, in October 2002. Wanting to be closer to home, they returned to Louisiana in January 2004 and she began working at Highland Road Animal Hospital in Baton Rouge. Dr. LaNasa remained there until February 2008 when she became a member of the Sherwood South family. She enjoys all aspects f canine and feline veterinary medicine and surgery, but as deep interest in dermatology. She is a member of the AVMA, LVMA, and BRAVMA. For several years, she has been an active member in the Junior League of Baton Rouge and feels rewarded in knowing she is giving back to her community through volunteer work. In her spare time she enjoys canvas painting, decorating, digital photography and gardening. She and her husband enjoy teaching and raising their daughter, Aubrey. They have one dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Porter.
