SENIOR WELLNESS PROGRAMS

Pets age at a much faster rate than humans do. Your pet is considered a senior when they reach the age of seven. At this time, and every year thereafter, we recommend performing “Total Health Plus” lab work that is sent off to our outside laboratory, Idexx Diagnostics. This lab work evaluates the organ systems of your pet’s body, including the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets along with liver, kidney, protein, electrolyte and sugar values. It also includes a thyroid function test. We know that as your pet ages, certain changes can occur. It is important to catch these changes early to prevent or slow down certain negative processes.

Another important part of senior health is twice yearly examinations. A lot can change with your pet physically in just a short time. Twice yearly examinations allow the doctors at SSAH to diagnose and treat problems earlier in any given situation.
