Endoscopy is a less invasive means to evaluate the gastrointestinal tract for disease, foreign bodies or obstructions. Not only can the endoscope be used to retrieve foreign objects from the esophagus, stomach, and intestines, but it can also be used to diagnose common intestinal diseases like inflammatory bowel or cancer.
